Dynamic, Romantic, Fantastic are just a few of the comments heard among the audience as Darenda Owens expresses her God given talent in music. Her unique interpretation makes every song sound as if it were written just for her. Anyone can sing the song, but Darenda's vocal artistry paints the picture just as the writer intended.
Darenda is the winner of The Orange County California Music Awards “Best Country Artist" of 2003. She sings a country song like she was born in the heart of Texas. Just when you think, "This girl is pure country," she will knock you out with her hard drivin' rock 'n roll. When you recover from that surprise, she will cut to the core of your soul with a gospel melody. If it' s music, she can sing it! Darenda believes no one should be limited to any single style of music. She says, "When God gave us music, He didn't divide it into categories". Music is for people and Darenda's love for music transcends all genres.
Singing has always been Darenda’s first love. She was the first of three daughters born to a preacher and his wife, Darrell and Barbara Owens of Houston, Texas. Darenda sang her first song in church at the age of two. Growing up on the road, she traveled and performed with her family, singing in churches throughout the United States as The Owens Family.
Later, Darenda moved on to experience the Nashville Scene. While there, Darenda worked with some of the top musicians, artists and songwriters in the country music business. She expanded her recording experience by singing back up vocals, recording demos for some of the top writers in Nashville, as well as recording some original music for her own distribution.
A few years later, Darenda moved to California, where she recently won both the OCMA 2003 and OCMA 2005 for best country artist at the Grove in Anaheim, CA. Performing in such venues as The House 0f Blues, The Coach House and The Orange County Fairgrounds. Singing everything from the gospel tune, “He Gave Me Music" to an original, “I Can Do That On My Own". Darenda continues to impress audiences on stage and recently earned the Featured Artist of the Week on the highly rated; KLOS 95.5 radio station in Los Angeles.
Darenda continues to please audiences with her superb sound, high-energy performances and crossover style. Her sisters, Tammy and Melissa Owens often join her on stage, and together, they are a dynamic threesome. Darenda says, "I'm doing what I love to do. That's why it finally feels so right".
In 2005 Darenda moved back to the Music city of Nashville, where she now has started her own NashvilleRadio.biz World Wide Radio Station. Her goal is to expose the world to the Independent Artists of Nashville.
